In 2023, life took an unexpected and painful turn for Trina and her family. "Someone hacked my bank account, reversed rent payments, and…we had to move out," she recalls. After losing their home, Trina, her husband Simon, and their two teenagers found themselves staying in hotels for nearly four months, trying to regain stability. That’s when Trina met Louise, Family Promise Cobb’s dedicated Case Manager.

“Once we got into Family Promise… it was a grind,” Trina remembers. "I’d never experienced sleeping at different churches each week. Everyone was very nice to us—they fed us dinner, made my kids feel at home." For Trina, this kindness meant everything, especially during such a challenging time. Her husband, Simon, had recently undergone triple bypass surgery, adding another layer of stress. Trina’s days were full. As the new manager at an IHOP in Roswell, she worked late hours, sometimes from 2 PM until midnight. “The churches were nice enough to let me come in after 9:00 at night,” she says, grateful for the understanding and flexibility that helped her keep her job.

Trina also reflects on the encouragement and guidance she received from Louise: “Miss Louise was tough, but I love her for that. She made me do everything, helped me stay on top of bills, and showed me how to manage better.” This support and structure made a huge difference, and Trina felt empowered, knowing she was gaining the skills and confidence to rebuild their lives.

Family Promise Cobb supported them with gift cards for gas, helped them find their footing, and worked with Trina to ease the transition for her two teenagers, who were struggling to understand the changes they were facing. When her son had a difficult day, it was Louise who stepped in to offer support, showing that Family Promise Cobb cares about more than just providing shelter—they’re there for families through every hardship, both seen and unseen.

Through grit, support, and unwavering determination, Trina and Simon have emerged stronger than ever. Today, the family lives near East Lake Golf Club, enjoying a new home and fresh opportunities. Both Trina and Simon have started new jobs, and their children are settled in school, ready to move forward. "We wouldn’t have been able to get back on our feet without Family Promise. We’re so thankful for everything they did for us.”

Trina’s story is a powerful reminder of what a caring community can accomplish. Family Promise Cobb helps families like Trina's build a brighter future, but we can’t do it without your help.
