We at Family Promise of Cobb County are still catching our breath from the whirlwind of excitement that was our first-ever "Dungeons & Drafts: Rolling for Hope" event. On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, we transformed Glover Park Brewery into a realm of adventure, mischief, and meaningful impact. Our innovative approach to fundraising brought together seasoned adventurers and curious newcomers alike, all united in our mission to combat family homelessness in Cobb County.

Rolling Natural 20s for Our Community

From the moment we opened the doors at Glover Park Brewery, we knew this wasn't going to be your typical fundraising event. The historic taproom buzzed with anticipation as dice clattered across tables and cheers erupted from successful saving throws. But what made this night truly special wasn't just the games – it was watching our community come together to support families in need, one chaotic roll at a time.

By the Numbers

  •  Over 20 community members joined our cause

  •  Three simultaneous D&D campaigns ran throughout the evening

  •  A dozen local families will receive direct support from the proceeds

The Real Stars: Our Dungeon Masters of Chaos

We cannot express enough gratitude to our incredible Dungeon Masters who made this event unforgettable. Kris Dennis, Jaxson Clark, and Nate Driggers didn't just run games – they orchestrated symphonies of controlled chaos that kept players and spectators alike on the edge of their seats. Their creativity, enthusiasm, and willingness to embrace the mayhem of our "Dirty D&D" format truly made this event special.

Dirty D&D: Where Chaos Reigns Supreme

Speaking of mayhem, our "Dirty Dungeons & Dragons" format proved to be the highlight of the evening. We watched in delight as audience members and players purchased stars to influence the games, creating some of the most memorable moments we've ever witnessed at a fundraising event.

Picture this: In a moment of collective mischief, someone triggered a massive hurricane that swept through ALL of our ongoing campaigns simultaneously! Players across every table had to deal with gale-force winds and torrential rain while continuing their quests. The roars of laughter and creative problem-solving that ensued were worth every soaked character sheet.

Where Craft Meets Fantasy

Our partners at Glover Park Brewery proved to be the perfect hosts for this unconventional evening. The venue's historic brick walls and industrial-chic atmosphere created an ambiance that felt like stepping into a medieval tavern – complete with significantly better beer options! Their commitment to our cause was evident in every aspect of the evening, from their generous donation of proceeds to the warm welcome extended to every guest.

Impact Beyond the Game Table

While the chaos and laughter created unforgettable memories, we're most proud of the real impact this event will have on our community. Every $20 player registration, every beer purchased, and every "Dirty D&D" star sold contributes directly to our mission of providing shelter, meals, and support services to families experiencing homelessness in our community.

The Real Quest: Supporting Our Families

The funds raised during Dungeons & Drafts will help support our core programs:

  1. Emergency Shelter Program

    • Rotational and Transitional programs providing safe family shelter

    • Supporting families with case management services

  2. Prevention Services

  3. Helping families maintain their current housing

  4. Offering financial literacy education

  5. Stabilization Programs

  6. Supporting families after they secure housing

  7. Providing ongoing case management

Looking Ahead: The Campaign Continues

The overwhelming success of Dungeons & Drafts: Rolling for Hope has inspired us to make this a recurring event. The combination of community engagement, creative fundraising, and genuine impact proves that thinking outside the box can yield amazing results in our fight against family homelessness.

While we're still finalizing details, we're excited to announce that we're already planning our next gaming fundraiser. Stay tuned to our social media channels and website for announcements about 2025 events!
