Our Families
At Family Promise of Cobb County, we believe every family deserves a safe and stable place to call home. Homelessness can affect anyone, regardless of background or circumstance. Our mission is to support families in crisis and help them regain stability, independence, and hope for the future.
Many people assume homelessness only affects individuals struggling with addiction or severe mental illness, or that it is the result of poor choices. The reality is far more complex. For many families, homelessness is the result of a sudden crisis combined with the rising cost of housing and living expenses.
The Reality of Homelessness
The families we serve come from many different walks of life, including:
Families with children
Military veterans with families
Individuals with college degrees
People from a wide range of professions and backgrounds
Parents actively seeking employment
Most families we serve were stable and working before a crisis changed everything. Common events that lead to homelessness include:
Job loss or reduced work hours
Medical emergencies or chronic illness
Domestic violence
Divorce or separation
The death of a family member
Natural disasters or unexpected financial crises
Many families are living paycheck to paycheck.
Without savings or a strong support network,
even a single crisis can lead to the loss of housing.
When There Is No Safety Net
Some families do not have relatives or friends who can provide temporary shelter or financial assistance. Without that safety net, they can quickly find themselves without a place to live.
This isolation can make recovery even more difficult, forcing families to turn to shelters or other emergency resources while they work to rebuild stability.
The Challenge in Cobb County
Nearly 1 in 10 residents in Cobb County lives below the poverty line,
placing many families at risk of housing instability driven by two key factors:
Limited Affordable Housing
The supply of affordable housing in Cobb County
does not meet the needs of many working families.
Jobs That Don’t Pay a Living Wage
Many essential jobs do not provide enough income to cover rising housing,
childcare, healthcare, and transportation costs.
The Families We Serve
Family Promise of Cobb County supports many different types of families, including:
-
Single parents working to provide stability for their children
-
Two-parent families navigating a temporary crisis together
-
Extended families such as grandparents or relatives caring for children
-
Veterans with children who need support transitioning back to stability
Each family’s story is unique, but they all share the same goal: to regain stability and create a better future for their children.
Restoring Stability and Hope
Family Promise of Cobb County works to break the cycle of homelessness for families with children through shelter, housing support, eviction prevention, case management, and community partnerships.
Together with our volunteers, congregations, and community partners, we help families move from crisis to stability — and toward a future where they can thrive.
